Google has launched Guided Learning in Gemini to counter ChatGPT's study mode. As the school year starts, the new slang Guided Learning has been introduced in the AI platform, Gemini. Guided Learning is intended to operate as an AI tutor, providing assistance to users in developing an understanding of topics rather than providing direct answers.

This introduction comes almost immediately after OpenAI released Study Mode for ChatGPT, which was also CPU-guided toward social interaction development, critical thinking, and deep engagement with material. It looks like both companies are reacting to the worries that AI chatbots could harm the learning process by providing answers promptly with no context.

Major Features

Guided Learning includes the provision of images and diagrams, videos, and interactive quizzes designed to promote contextual responses according to an individual's learning style.

Statement by Google says the tool helps users to uncover the "why" and "how" behind concepts. Essentially, Guided Learning partners with users in collaborative development during exam preparation, paper writing, or exercising creativity.

Gemini Improvements

Apart from Guided Learning, Google is enhancing Gemini's other educational features:

  • Automatic embedding of images, diagrams, and YouTube videos inside the response
  • The ability to generate flashcards and study guides out of quiz results or class material

Google also announced a free one-year subscription to its AI Pro plan for students in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil, featuring access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, NotebookLM, Veo 3, Deep Research, among others.

Conclusion

With the launch of Guided Learning, Google is positioning Gemini as a full-fledged educational assistant for deeper learning and critical thinking, taking a big step with regard to the integration of AI tools in academia.
