In a significant data breach incident, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America recently revealed that hackers broke into an unauthorized third-party cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) system, resulting in the theft of sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers, of more than 1.4 million U.S. customers.

How the Breach Occurred
The attack, on 16th July 2025, was done using social engineering methods. The attackers represented themselves as IT employees to obtain access credentials to the CRM system, bypassing security controls and accessing confidential customer details.
What Data Was Compromised
The compromised data includes:
- Names
- Birth dates
- Postal addresses
- Social Security numbers
Some of the financial specialists and Allianz Life staff were also affected by the breach.
Allianz Life's Response
When Allianz Life learned of the breach on July 17, it immediately took steps to isolate the incident and notified law enforcement authorities. The company is giving victims 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection service as a way of anticipating potential harm.
Allianz Life is also closely examining its security protocols and increasing steps to prevent any recurrence of the incident.
